CONCEPT

Promoting art in Kashmir by nurturing creativity, building community, and supporting artists.
The name HunarGaah is derived from two words — Hunar (ہنر), meaning skill, and Gaah (گاہ), meaning place. Together, it represents a space dedicated to creativity, learning, and artistic expression, where artists come together to grow and share their journey.

At its core, HunarGaah is an attempt to keep the artistic spirit of Kashmir alive and moving forward. In a place where creativity has always existed quietly in homes, in memory, in craft, in conversation we hope to create room for artists to be seen, supported and sustained.
About us:

HunarGaah was born from a simple belief that Kashmir has always been filled with artists, dreamers, and untold creative voices waiting to be seen. Rooted in the spirit of the valley we are trying to build a space where art can grow freely, where emerging and established artists come together and where creativity becomes part of everyday life. For the painters, the sculptors, the storytellers, and those who still choose to create despite everything, HunarGaah exists for them. We are rooted in the belief that art has always lived quietly within Kashmir. It has been present in its people, its memory, its silence and its stories. We are building a space for those who feel deeply, create honestly and continue to imagine beyond limitation. HunarGaah is an attempt to return art to the everyday and to nurture a culture where creativity is not distant but lived, shared and carried forward together.
HunarGaah also exists to support artists beyond the studio helping them share, exhibit and sustain their work in meaningful ways. Too often, talented artists in Kashmir create in silence, without access to spaces that truly value or represent their practice. We aim to bridge that gap by creating opportunities for visibility, dialogue, and connection between artists and and people who appreciate art, allowing creative work to find both appreciation and a lasting home.

OUR ENDEAVOURS
PRAZNAV – The Bloom of New Art
In collaboration with Islamic University of Science and Technology, HunarGaah curated PRAZNAV at the Wastoorwan Gallery of Art. Derived from the Kashmiri word meaning “to recognise,” the exhibition reflected a moment of acknowledging emerging artistic voices and celebrating local traditions. Conceived as the first of many such initiatives, PRAZNAV marked the beginning of an ongoing journey to recognise, support, and elevate art from the Valley.
